Forgotten or Unloved Bands

So I’ve been digging into the chest of oldies but goodies.  I’ve come to realize that there are so many bands out there that have been forgotten or simply don’t get the love they used to.  Some of them never got much love.  Here are some of my tops.

So maybe R.E.M. is a stretch to say that everyone has forgotten them.  But I NEVER hear any hype from the music industry about them and what they are doing now.  What other rock band do you know that can make a mandolin the main instrument in a song and make it ROCK.  I love R.E.M.

I think I will spend the rest of my life trying to convince my friend James that Matchbox 20 is one of the better bands of our generation.  I think Rob Thomas is one of the better song writers of our generation.  I always appreciate well-thought-out lyrics.  Tonally great as well.  You will believe, James.

Give it up for my boys from Mississippi.  Who knows what Blind Melon could have been.

Better Than Ezra.  If you haven’t heard them, you’ve been missing out for a long time.  No love for my hometown boys.

Not much to say.  I loved  Gin Blossoms.

The Killers.  Not much love for this band either.  I love how the Killers have taken on this 80s nouveau genre and are creating GREAT things.  Their tone is amazing.

Not an exhaustive list – YOU let me know YOUR picks for the greatest frontmen.

And YES, I had to put Tom’s picture up there.

Does everyone else enjoy SNL Digital Shorts as much as I do? Aaron and I are convinced this the funniest one yet. When music and SNL meet, it is a beautiful thing. Enjoy Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Andy Samberg and their love of Iranian president, Mahmoud Aminiduhwhatever.

Unfortunately, the video won’t imbed. But the quality is really good. So copy and paste the link.

YOU MUST KNOW: i love tom petty
I came across a clip from a fairly new documentary on Tom Petty (called Runnin’ Down a Dream) on YouTube and I just have to share it. There’s much I can say about this one clip, but I’ll save that for another time(s). Expect to see it posted several more times – with something different to talk about each time. I’ll be getting the full DVD soon!

Those were the words of Dave Matthews on the death of his long-time saxophonist, Leroi Moore. Moore died this Tuesday, August 19th.

Want to talk Music?

One of my passions is music. It’s ONE of them. But it’s a BIG ONE. So I thought I’d start a blog called “Muse”ic. Maybe it will catch on and I’ll get 10,000 hits a day. I doubt it….but you never know. I’m sure others have sites with the play on words: muse + music = “muse”ic. It’s like it sounds. This blog will be dedicated to thinking about and talking about music: new albums, bands, the industry. If it deals with music, we’ll talk about it. To be honest, a good deal of the discussion may be around Christian music and the industry. But knowing me, it will dabble well outside those lines. Let me know your thoughts!!!
